People are exposed to molds every day, usually by touching or breathing them. Because molds naturally exist outdoors and indoors, living in a totally mold-free environment is practically impossible. As molds grow, spores can be released into the air where they can be easily inhaled. People who inhale large numbers of spores may get sick. Possible health concerns are an important reason to prevent mold growth and to clean up molds in indoor environments.
If you've experienced water damage or unusual musty odor in your home or place of business, you may be at risk of mold contamination. More than just affecting indoor air quality, molds can produce toxins that can cause serious health risks in both humans and animals.
Testing for mold on surfaces and in the air is not always the first step that should be taken when trying to determine the quality of the indoor environment. Instead, it is important to take steps to identify potential problems and possible solutions.
If mold testing is desired we offer direct sampling and air sampling services. These samples are then delivered to a AIHI accredited analytical laboratory for interpretation. A detailed report of the laboratories findings is then issued.
If you can see or smell mold, it is likely that there is a source of moisture that needs to be fixed and the mold needs to be cleaned or removed. Testing cannot determine whether or not health effects will occur. Decisions cannot be made based on the laboratory results alone. If there are strong indications that mold is growing in the house, intrusive checking may be needed to find the mold.
